Get Your Head (and Gut!) in the Game

Next week marks the beginning of the FEI World Equestrian Games™, a global equestrian phenomenon that combines these 8 sports: Dressage, Driving, Endurance, Eventing, Jumping, Reining, Vaulting, and Para-Equestrian Dressage. These horse and rider pairs have their heads in the game, so this month we’re focusing on getting our heads (and guts) in the game too.

Do you have your head in the game? Often times, our mental state is directly affected by our physical state. If something is hurting, that is where our focus will be. This occurs with our animals as well, which is why it is vital to keep their health at its prime, so they can perform at their best.

The Problem:

Travel, competition, sickness, worming, stall rest or antibiotic treatment are all common stressors that create a hostile gut environment, and because 70% of immune cells are housed in the gut, this digestive upset makes your horse or dog vulnerable to illness. (This is similar to why we as humans often get colds when we are under a lot of stress at work or school.) This “hostile gut environment” occurs due to a decrease in beneficial microbial population and increase in bad microbial population in the gut. For horses, this imbalance in microbial population is the perfect storm for ulcers, colic or laminitis. For dogs, this may look like vomiting, diarrhea or anxiety. In simpler terms? An unhappy gut often means an unhealthy animal.

The Solution:

Vitalize® Equine Recovery Gel is a quick, easy way to jump-start your four-legged friend’s health in any stressful situation. The gel contains a combination of B-vitamins, antioxidants, MOS and our all-natural prebiotic, Amaferm. Amaferm & MOS work as a team to maintain a healthy gut; Amaferm helps the good microbes flourish, while MOS sequesters the bad microbes. Amaferm has also been research-proven to increase overall digestibility and nutrient absorption of feed, help stabilize gut pH and create a healthy gastrointestinal tract from the foregut to the hindgut. When used at the first sign of digestive upset, the Vitalize Recovery Gel has been known to turn a horse (or dog) around in no time!

Whether you are showing at the World Equestrian Games™, competing at a local rodeo or just taking your dog home from the vet, our animals feel the effects of stress.
